An Automobile Accident
01:32
|
|||
You sold your soul for a house in a gated community
You love thy neighbor but you only piss off thy family
You traded a truth of random for a lie of providence
To never know that your life had all the meaning of an automobile accident
"Someone turned the lights back on."
You're manning the battered sails of a ship named "Second Chance"
Approaching a black line out on the sunset of circumstance
You mortgaged a truth of minutes for a lie of evermore
Instead of an epitaph, it's just a name and a credit score.

My Legs, My Arms

Last night, I decided that I could no longer live in a world without Ted Gunderson. I made up my mind that I was going to commit suicide by dropping the digital recorder into the bathtub with me. Around 9PM, I drew a nice, hot bath, and I threw the recorder in. But I forgot to plug it in, first. Long story short, I ruined the hard drive and erased our entire new album, as well as the only known recording of my critically acclaimed speech, "The Ten Most Racist Things I ever Said at Bingo". It's good to be back, America.
I wish you'd mind my legs, my arms
They're wrapped around you way too hard
And though right now, my mind's a wreck
I'm still wondering what happens next

So sorry to be...
but this canned food you feed me makes me want to starve myself
I hurt a lot of people
so we could be together
when the time was right, you'd know
Phony.
Wired just for me.
I'm gonna show you a good time, baby.
Go put your dancing shoes on.
So easy to be...
It was a trip down the water slide
suspended in oil with no conclusion
I pulled the quills out
one by one
while you stayed in the closet

I found it in my room, today
I think the worst is coming straight my way
And now that it's all around
I want to pick it up and throw it on the ground
Taking it way too far
to the end of the party
And now that it's all in my veins
I want to tell you that I love you.

Basic

Some people say
That there's a life to be had
Well, there's not
or I'd have found it by now
In this muddy, fucking lake
Basic, like a watered down brain
Some people say
that there's a living to be made
And there is
if you'd just die for it
In this muddy, fucking lake

Apartment G

Oh, my... what did I do this time?
They want to see me? Want me to come inside?
Should I avoid them? Should I step away?
Should I wait and leave it for a better day?
My ears are ringing in this house.
I'll plug my ears. Maybe I won't hear a thing.
I hope to God we never come here again.
Am I progressing further towards the door?
I'm so damned nervous. What's this all for?
My ears are ringing in this house.

You've got a problem
and it sings like a choir of rats
Your friends all think that you need to go see the doctor
On your sleeve, you wear a heart attack
Well, you've got a problem
and it only gets worse when you drink
There's a plot out in the boneyard that you've been buying
on a pay as you go policy
There's a hole in your brain with an 8mm lens
taking pictures of the house where your ex-wife lives
and you drink so much now that you'll probably be dead
by the time the interest rate on your mortgage resets
and you know...
That the kids are gonna go live with her
And your debts are gonna follow them all home
And nobody's going to be at the funeral
Because you're old and overweight and divorced
And you know that you should have listened to them

Vermin

They never offer a fair price for helping hands
a constant reminder
And all the chemicals you take would recommend
that you go out and find her
This vermin is yearning
This vermin is yearning
Your ego's not worth it
You play the role of a dim light in self defense
But they still see your blinders
And your time of budgeted meals is almost spent
Now go out and find her

They were already dead when I found them. I should have called the police, but I just ran. Some of the neighbors had seen me hanging around outside her apartment the last couple weeks, and I knew they would think that I did it. I don't really like to call what I was doing "stalking", because I know that had she been given the right opportunity to see who I was inside, she would have wanted me to see her in the shower.

No, I'm not your Prendergast.
No, I'm not your Mickey Mouse.
You're in the driver's seat,
and you're going to hit that house.
